Braking Casters

Algood has several braking casters that can be used across a wide variety of applications. Below are several of our more popular caster brake types, illustrated and described. If you have a unique application that our existing product line does not adequately handle, please contact our engineering and design department for a custom solution.

The Side Locking Braking Caster has the most economical wheel brake. When the SLB is engaged, it compresses the hub of the yoke, creating friction upon the hub of the wheel.

On the Universal Wheel Braking Caster the brake is pre-welded to fork of caster. UWB is engaged by stepping on the Toe brake which securely, positively locks to the tread of the wheel. Wheel lock can be easily adjusted to accommodate variable tolerances in wheels.

The Top Locking Braking Caster creates a positive braking action the surface of the wheel. Top Locking Brake (TLB1) Same as TLB. Actuator is coated with a polyurethane coating, which gives a greater positive lock on the surface of the wheel. Top Locking Brake (TLB2) Same as TLB. Larger foot pedal makes brake easier to engage and disengage and provides better foot placement.

On the Thumb Screw Braking Caster, the brake is engaged manually by turning a rugged screw, which engages positively to the wheel hub.

 

The Double Locking Braking Caster mechanism engages a positive braking action on the tread surface of the wheel, while simultaneously locking the swivel raceway in any position. Plastic pedal resists rust and corrosion in wet environments. Available in stainless steel.

The Position Swivel Lock converts a swivel caster to rigid. PSL can be disengaged into neutral position to allow for free swiveling action. The spring-loaded plunger is hand operated to fit into slots in the swivel raceway. Can be purchased pre-welded to middle plate or with wings that secure PSL to middle plate when mounting bolts to the middle plate.

The ALock Brake Mechanism engages a positive braking action on the tread surface of the wheel while simultaneously locking the swivel raceway in any position. ALK has metal construction that will stand up to industrial abuse. ALK is engaged by stepping on the Toe which securely, positively locks two rubber grommets to the tread of the wheel and simultaneously locks swivel in any position. ALK is conveniently located in lead position. Available in stainless steel.

The Side Locking Braking Caster places a positive locking force against the wheel hub. Large foot pedal makes engaging brake easy to operate and easy access to engage brake. Available in stainless steel.
